Celebrant Sam Goodchild
If you have recently lost a loved one, I am sorry for your loss. I know this can be a really difficult time. There are so many decisions to make and things to think about. Grief affects people in many different ways. I believe in giving people the space to grieve in the way that is right for them. I consider it an honour to be present with a family during such a difficult time. I will come to visit you to talk through the kind of service you would like. We can work together and if you would like to take part in the service, say a few words, sing, play or read, you would be very welcome. Equally if you feel you cannot speak or participate in the service, then I am here to support you. I can read out your words or write some words to read based on what you tell me.
I encourage you to think freely about the kind of funeral that your loved one would have wanted. I believe that it is important to say goodbye respectfully and in a way that honours your beloved. Music, readings and the whole service can be personalised to the one we are saying goodbye to. For some people this may mean including hymns to sing and biblical or religious passages to read. Other people may wish to include elements from other religious or spiritual traditions such as Buddhist, Native American Indian or Maori. For others, they may wish to have no religious element; they may wish it to centre around family values and a celebration of their loved one’s life. And other families may wish to combine all these elements or create something completely different. At infinite Love I design the ceremony that is right for you. I write a service that reflects you and your loved one’s values. You will see the draft ceremony, to make changes to it and agree it before the actual day.
Being Brighton based, I know that many people in this area want funerals that are different and unique. I say think freely! You are no longer restrained by tradition if that is not for you. From hymns to heavy metal, from pink hearses to motorbike side-car hearses, from traditional oak coffins to green wicker coffins, from crematorium to woodland or even sea burials; the options are limitless.
